Now that we are back home, unpacked and the xmas tree is up, we've had time get some of the pics we took. WARNING - there are lots. I made 3 albums for the 3 legs of our trip.
Tufi Dive Resort, Papua New Guinea: We spent 4 nights at the Tufi Dive Resort where we experienced some of the cultural aspects of the local villages, we also did some diving, spent some time on the beach and attempted fishing.
Tufi Web Album:

MV Febrina, Papua New Guinea: We spent 9 nights on the MV Febrina. Daily schedule was wake-eat-dive-eat-dive-eat-dive-eat-dive-eat-dive-drink-sleep. We also had more encounters with the people of PNG.
Febrina Web Album:

Daintree Rainforest, Australia: We drove from Cairns to the Daintree Rainforest (Australia's oldest and most diverse rainforest) where we spent 4 days playing in the jungle and learning the ways of the aussie.

To sum it all up ... 'this was the trip of a life time ... the world is strange, beautiful and vast ... and after experiencing how people live without the luxuries we have ... i realize "things" are not important and thank God everyday for the life he has given me"
P.S. I still plan to post some pics of the Papua New Guinea underwater.

Back on Land
We've got tons of pics from our dive part of the trip and we'll post more about that later. For now we've got a busy afternoon of keeping our eyes out for the lodge's resident cassowary (it's a huge bird 4-5 ft tall named Fred) and then going to a local Aussie restaurant for dinner for some local fare...hopefully that's not where we see the crocs and roos!
Hope everyone at home had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We'll be home soon...

Cultural Experience
- Cruise ship had a chopper that took the guests on excursions throughout their stop – Don was trying to get on to Kokoda for a day trip, but it didn’t happen
Met Michelle – lady who is a dr. in Australia who mom is originally from PNG – she had a very emotional experience earlier in their trip where she met up with he aunties, uncles, and grandparents for the first time since she was a kid
- Went on motor boats over to the mangroves – were picked up in dugout canoes by men who were decked out in their tradition dress – included palm leave skirts, flowers around their arms and head and later we saw the women were bare chested with lots of necklaces to somewhat cover their chests.
- Got paddled up the inlet of mangroves where we were dropped off at the “lower village”
There they showed us demonstrations of how they lived and worked…including digging out the sago tree to make pulp, taking the pulp to the river where they strained the starch out of the pulp…then they collected the pulp and formed a loaf…where they put it on a palm leaf fire (we got to taste the outer skin…kinda tasted like play dough)…they wrap it in banana leafs to carry it…then the women grind it up to make a soup – Brock tasted it and it was like glue. Yum. Then they offered us fresh fruits and coconut milk fresh from the coconuts. They had set up a makeshift market where all the families sold handmade souvenirs. We bought a couple of things, got back on the canoes, and headed out to the next village.
- The next village offered us a look at a traditional Sing-Sing. The locals in their traditional dress dance around and sing songs for different purposes…they showed us their welcome song/dance and one that they do as a volcano dance.
- We got a tour around their village and a few more demonstrations – one of bag weaving, one of rope making, one of fire making, and one of face tattooing. They didn’t actually do the tattooing while we were there, but they did show us the technique that they would use if they did using a nail and piece of wood…I’m so glad I had mine done where there is electricity! Also, usually only the women get tattoos, and they get them on their faces. It symbolizes a coming of age, and then once you have your face tattooed, you are able to begin looking for a husband. Almost all of the older women have full face tattoos, but they said as the younger generations go outside of the villages for school and work, it is less common for young women to get the tattoos.
- We were offered fresh local fruit (the pineapple was the BEST pineapple we’ve ever tasted!) and more coconut water and given the chance to buy some more local souvenirs.
- Headed back to the resort to get ready for our afternoon dive. Had an awesome curry chicken lunch and then down to the dive shop to hit Paul’s Reef
- The dive was beautiful – we’re coming to expect that here – and we came up with tons of life to add to our dive log.
- After the dive, Simon had invited the guests of the North Star cruise ship to the resort for cocktails and appetizers. We got to enjoy the evening and made a few friends, including getting to talk to Michelle again about how she went from a small girl in a local PNG village to now a doctor in Australia.
- After the cruise guests left, we sat around with Simon, his daughter Rebecca, Don and the locals who work at the resort listening to stories and telling a few of our own.

We made it!
Day 2-3?...: Lots and lots of time spent on an airplane, but we finally made it to PNG. We're staying the night in Port Moresby, the capital, and then off to our first real adventure tomorrow in Tufi (look up Tufi Dive Resort on google). We don't think our GPS thing is working, but keep checking back and hopefully we'll get it up and running soon. Hope everyone is doing great at home! It will probably be a few days before we get to log in again. But we'll post pics as soon as we're able. Miss yall!

Lazy "K" Weekend

We had a fine weekend in Franklin, TX with the fam. Franklin is 40 minutes north of College Station. Tiff's brother, Brady and his wife Jenna have 27 acres of Texas farm fun. We call it the Lazy K Ranch. Lots of animals - donkeys, goats, cats, and a dog. Tiff and I learned how to rope a plastic calf and hog tie things - like they do in the rodeos. I'm better than Tiff at roping, but neither of us will be competing
anytime soon. Brady showed us his ropin' skills on Raisin the goat...but not sure if that was fair...Raisin is pregnant and moving a bit slow! We played with goats and donkeys and took lots of farm animal pictures. Tiff's fav goat was Turk - the baby black one in our pics. Massey, their dog, loves to chase the goats around. Tiff's parents came in too and cooked a great BBQ lunch for us. We played hours of dominoes and joker which brought out the best in sibling rivalries. Tiff and I went for a run down the dirt roads practicing for next weekend's race. Saturday nite we went to Ama's - 1 of Franklin's 3 eating establishments - for good local Tex Mex and BYOB. It was just another Lazy "K" Weekend.

Playa del Carmen
We just got back from a trip w/ the Hannas to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It was so much fun. We left on Thursday (1/8) and came back on Sunday (1/11). Here's a recap.
Thursday. We left DFW at 9:15, arrived in Cancun and caught our private transfer to the Riu Palace Riviera Maya. Cat & Travis started the trip with gifts for us...Bubba Kegs to always keep our drinks cold! On the way, we had the shuttle driver stop at a gas station so we could get the party started. The hotel was very nice and reminded me of a typical hotel in New Orleans (only by a beach). After checking in, we threw on our suits, ate lunch at the buffet and checked the place out. We spent the rest of the day chilling by
the pool. Travis played water polo (tried to anyway), Tiff and I tried our scuba gear out in the pool. For dinner we went to the hotel's Brazilian restaraunt and then went to the sports bar to watch the NCAA Football National Championship Game (OU vs. FL). Travis bet me a t-shirt that OU would win. He lost. Travis spent a good portion of the evening talking to a group of older men from St. Louis and kept telling them they all looked 30 years younger than they really were. What a flirt.
Friday. We woke up early to be at the Fantasea Dive Shop for a couple dives in the morning. Our dive guide looked and acted like a Matthew McConaughey knock-off. The Hannas were going to snorkel while we dove. Catherine snorkeled for our first dive, while Travis fed the fish. Travis got really sea sick so the boat dropped them off at the beach while we did the 2nd dive. The dives were pretty good, but at the bottom of the list compared to some of the other places we've bee
n. We saw a really big hawksbill, plenty of eels, huge schools of snapper, lobsters, a few monster crabs, and the anemones were huge for some reason. After diving, we went back to the hotel to let Travis recover. Tiff, Cat and I went to the beach to lay out and people watch. Travis showed up eventually. We ended up playing beach volleyball where Travis ended the game by slamming the ball into some guy's face. For dinner, we went to the hotel's steak house which was decent, but the dessert was best because it came with flaming liquor! We hung out in the lobby bar afterwords and taught the Hanna's to play Joker. Girls won! Funny thing of the night is that we would order a drink and get something completely different (ex: ordered a mudslide and got a mai tai.) Guess the bartender was lost in translation.
Saturday. We had the breakfast buffet and then went shopping and bar hopping in town. Good times. Travis got into heated negotiations with a lady who was trying to charge him a higher price than was on the price tag. Some attorney lady from Dallas translated and got it all worked out. Some of the bars we went to were the Beer Bucket (owned by Big Al from 106.1), and a bar that had a swings for chairs. We ate lunch at La Brisa which was hands down the best meal of the trip. We had shrimp tacos, ceviche, shrimp soup, fried fish and guacamole. It was delish. Finished the day at the hotel. We all played beach volleyball and soccer. There was an angry Russian guy who took the game way too seriously and inexplicably had a bandana wrapped around his knee as a brace...can't see how that helped. We finished our last full day in the infinity pool and a last drinkie drink from the pool bar. For dinner, we went to the Sushi restaraunt. Just Ok. We went out bar hopping that night. We went to a a bar on the beach (where we saw our dive guide), a swankie lounge bar on a roof, and then back to the bar w/ swin
gs. That was the last bar, because Brock ended up taking 2 tequila shots w/ a guy from Austria. Not a good decision. Brock out for the count. Back to the hotel...
Sunday. Brock slept and tried to deal w/ the worst hangover of his life. Cat, Tiff, and Travis hung out at the pool and ate a quick lunch. Travel was fine. Brock spent the whole rest of the day recovering from Saturday's shenangans.

Memories. Bubba Kegs; good mojitos; Brock's squeeky flip flops; having drinks in the sports bar w/ the old guys; Dive shop guide from Bama; Cat snorkeling overhead while we were diving; dive guide ran out of air before we did and left us to finish the dive, but Brock got us lost; Travis getting sea sick and getting to go to his own private beach w/ Cat; Travis spiking a volleyball into some guy's face; topless sunbathers; playing joker - guys v. girls; ordering drinks in the hotel lobby and getting something different; Big Al's bar (good bloody mary's); donkey balls shot concocted by the girls - 2 cherries, kaluha and vodka; Travis fighting w/ the lady in the store; that really good restaurant we went to (La Brisa); Angry Russian playing soccer; guac, guac and more guac; the rooms had free liquor and beer; nice room; Brock's 2 tequila shots of death and a long day of travel afterwards.
